Six essential oils for pregnancy, labor, and delivery
I had the pleasure of spending time with a childhood friend who’s expecting a baby in a few months. Seeing her beautiful belly reminded me of how nerve-racking it could be with so many thoughts and emotions overflowing during this time. Trust me, I was there twice, and I know the feeling! I got you covered with simple tips I’ve used to help my friends and me during pregnancy.
Natural Remedies to help with labor & delivery
Contractions
The initial pain and pressure are experienced when your body communicates that your baby’s time has arrived. For this phase, I diffuse Serenity essential oil from doTerra because it’s the perfect blend of oils to calm and soothe the mind, body, and soul. I used it throughout my entire pregnancy to help me relax and have restful nights of deep sleep.
Ingredients: Lavender Flower, Cedarwood, Ho Wood Leaf, Ylang Ylang Flower, Marjoram Leaf, Roman Chamomile Flower, Vetiver Root, Vanilla Bean Absolute, Hawaiian Sandalwood
Labor
If you’re past your due date and the doctor is talking about induction, simply massage Clary Sage oil on the ankles or abdomen. If you’re already experiencing contractions and want to help facilitate labor naturally, rub Clary Sage oil on the ankles only. This essential oil stimulates blood flow to the pelvis and triggers uterine contractions. I strongly suggest having someone massage your feet and ankles with Clary Sage + Serenity. It works wonders!
Delivery
The act or process of giving birth. For this phase, I gently massage Lavender, Clary Sage, and Balance on the lower back, hips, feet, and abdomen by diluting them with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil. Combining these three essential oils creates a powerful blend of super chill vibes, promoting tranquility and a sense of calmness. The balance oil helps to harmonize the various physiological systems of the body.
Ingredients for Balance: Spruce Leaf, Ho Wood Leaf, Frankincense Resin, Blue Tansy Flower, Blue Chamomile Flower, and Osmanthus Flower

Extra Tip
While at the hospital ask if it’s permitted to diffuse essential oils to help mom ease up and create a calming atmosphere. If granted permission, diffuse Geranium (promotes emotional balance), Serenity (promotes relaxation), or the Elevation essential oil, which helps awaken everyone’s senses by uplifting moods and enhancing mom’s confidence. I clearly remember nurses loving our room and appreciating the calming atmosphere.

The six essential oils mentioned above are high-quality therapeutic-grade oils from doTerra. These plants, herbs, flowers, and natural oils have been used for centuries by our ancestors to treat and heal the body. I share these tips to help any mom embarking on her journey into motherhood. May your experience be immensely memorable and stress-free. Happy delivery, and congrats!
